Future Watch: MacKeznie Blackwood Rookie Hockey Cards, DevilsFuture Watch: MacKeznie Blackwood Rookie Hockey Cards, DevilsMacKenzie Blackwood was drafted by the New Jersey Devils with the 42nd overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. At the time the Devils knew they got a very smart and physical goaltender. Now 6-4, 225 they’re getting exactly what they hoped for.

This Thunder Bay, Ontario native was a mainstay with the Barrie Colts for three seasons. He started out with a .902 save percentage and ended up with a .921. He was in the playoffs every season posting save percentages of .904, .922 and .915. That year with the .922, 2015-16 he was voted OHL Goaltender of the Year.

2015-16 was a great year for the prospect. He got to play three games for Team Canada in the U20s.

After that Blackwood got a promotion, turned pro, and started playing for the Albany Devils. He had a .907 save percentage in 36 games that year and in the playoffs, he excelled in four games, a 2.13 GAA and a .928 save percentage.

In 2017-18 he played in the AHL and ECHL. That can happen when an organization has more goaltenders than actual starting positions but this was so he could play in the playoffs. in the playoffs for the Adirondack Thunder he played in five games with a stingy 1.00 GAA and a .964 save percentage. Clearly his team didn’t score enough goals to win.

Collectors can find his rookie cards in 2018-19 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey, as well as O-Pee-Chee as well as 2016 Upper Deck Canada Juniors.

This season he started in the AHL with the Binghamton Devils. He played 15 games there posting a 2.69 GAA and a .969 save percentage. When injuries occurred, he was thrust into action. 10 games later he’s posted a 2.25 GAA and a .935 save percentage, as a rookie. It’s now his job to lose it seems.
