Future Watch: Marcus Pettersson Rookie Hockey Cards, Ducks

Marcus Pettersson was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks with the 38th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He stands at 6-4 and 180 pounds. As a defenseman that’s the kind of player teams are looking for to take away time and space from opposing players.

Pettersson has been playing in his homeland of Sweden from 2010-2017. He developed there playing against men. In his last year of the Swedish Hockey League, he played 46 games and had two goals and seven points. He got used to playing in the playoffs and that made him battle tested for an eventual shot at the National Hockey League.

He’s used to international competition as well playing in the U17’s in 2013 taking home a gold and then playing in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2015 and 2016. That second time he had four points in seven games.

In 2017-18 the Swede turned pro. He started the year with the San Diego Gulls in the AHL. Pettersson played 44 games and had 14 points. He showed great discipline with only 22 penalty minutes. In February he got the call to Anaheim.

Here’s a look at his first NHL goal:

He fit right in with the Ducks and their already strong defensive team. He played in 22 games and had 4 points. His stint with them was so good that he got to play in all four Ducks playoff games.

Collectors can find rookie cards of him in 2018-19 MVP Hockey as well as O-Pee-Chee and a host of Leaf products as well.

As he becomes more comfortable with the league the 22-year-old should kick in some secondary offense. He has all the makings to be a good one for many years to come. This is a big year for him in Anaheim. Collectors shouldn’t sleep on this prospect.
