Future Watch: Mark Alt Hockey Rookie Cards, Flyers – An imposing presence at 6′-4″ and 201lbsMark Alt is a defenseman currently playing for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. His formidable size provides the physical strength necessary to play professional hockey but his skating needed some work. So for the past three seasons he’s been playing in the AHL while waiting for his chance to crack the lineup for the big club.

In 2012, Alt played in the Frozen Four with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. After taking part in that tournament he turned pro and scored his first professional goal the following year. Last March, he made his NHL debut and he’s been working hard to get back ever since.

The Flyers have a deep veteran roster but next year there should be a few spots up for grabs on their blueline. Alt will certainly get a long, hard look in next year’s training camp. For now, he’s looking to make the most of his opportunities the rest of this season and during his summer training regimen.

At 24, he’s yet to reach the age where you say he’s not going to become an everyday NHL player. Most defenseman take longer to develop and just one injury, can set you back and that happened to Alt. Now the Missouri native has to prove his worth. His dad, John, played in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs and he’s a terrific athlete as well. He’s expected to be a shutdown defenseman and there’s every reason to believe he will achieve that goal.

Here’s a fight he had earlier in his career:

Mark Alt has NHL licensed rookie cards in 2015-16 O-Pee-Chee and Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey. He is a total bargain right now. Pick him up before he makes the Philly roster full time.

He was drafted in 2010, 53rd overall by the Carolina Hurricanes. He was traded to the Flyers in 2013. He’ll likely take another step towards his goal next season and Flyers fans will be waiting to see how much progress he’s made.
