Future Watch: Matt Hague Baseball Rookie Cards, Toronto Blue Jays – Matt Hague was a star in AAA this year for the Buffalo Bisons the farm team of the surging Toronto Blue Jays. He hit .347 with 32 doubles, 11 homers and 88 RBI. He was just named the International League MVP but he moved on as he tries to help the Blue Jays win the American League Eastern Division.

The 30-year-old infielder got in one game with one at-bat so far this season and he’s getting a lot of mention from the Toronto media. They were a bit surprised that he wasn’t called up September 1st but he should see some more major league time when his season ends.

While he’s on pace to set some offensive club records in Buffalo you have to treat him like an up and coming player. Some players kick around the minors for a long time until it all clicks and this may be the explanation for Hague.

At 6′-3″ and 225lbs he could be a fill in designated hitter for the Jays or another team next year. Hague was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 9th round of the 2008 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with the team on April 7th, 2012 and got 73 at-bats. He’s driven in seven runs and is still looking for his first major league dinger. There’s certainly a lack of major experience with him but his right handed power could be an asset.

Matt Hague’s first autographed cards can be found in 2011 Bowman Chrome. His official rookie card, including an autographed version in multiple refractors are part of the 2012 Topps Chrome Baseball set. While you’re chasing Bryce Harper you just might get Hague.

Check out this 4-4 night where he homered into the trees:

Sometimes players like Hague just need a chance. Right now he’s got some big bats ahead of him but next year he could be in the mix on a regular basis north of the border.
