Future Watch: Matt Vierling Rookie Baseball Cards, PhilliesFuture Watch: Matt Vierling Rookie Baseball Cards, PhilliesMatt Vierling was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round of the MLB Amateur Draft. This left fielder is 6-3, 205 pounds and he can rake.

In high school, this athlete earned four varsity letters including basketball and football. He went to the University of Notre Dame to play baseball. In his freshman season, he made 54 appearances in the outfield and 10 on the mound. He did record two saves pitching and had 22 multi-hit games as an outfielder.

In his second season, he was all ACC hitting a torrid .330. He ranked fourth in the ACC with four triples and eighth in doubles with 20.

Then he got drafted and reported to the Williamsport Crosscutters in the New York Penn League. He hit .420 with three doubles, one home run, and six RBI.

He then moved up to the Lakewood BlueClaws in A-ball. Vierling slugged 15 doubles, six home runs, and 25 RBI in 50 games. He hit .293 and had a .342 on-base percentage. That’s a great start to one of the up and coming prospects in the Phillies organization.

Here’s a look at his solid approach at the plate and eventual hit:

Collectors can get his 2018 Bowman Draft autographed rookie card.

Vierling has been playing center field and the Phillies are thinking he can move through their system quickly and get to the majors in the next few years based on the fact that he played in college, is physically mature and is already 22-years-old.

Collectors should be in on him. He is moving up the charts quickly and the Phillies will soon have vacancies in the outfield, especially if they can’t land Bryce Harper. At some point, all it will take is a hot spring and a chance. He’s not there yet but he’s moving in that direction.
