matthew-tkachuk-2016-17-upper-deck-young-guns-rookie-cardFuture Watch: Matthew Tkachuk Rookie Hockey Cards, Flames – Matthew Tkachuk is an impact player who is starring for the Calgary Flames. Selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft there were some questions about him making the team as an 18-year-old. At 6′-2″, 203 pounds his strength isn’t an issue. The question scouts had was, would he be able to put it all together in time to be NHL ready for the start of the 2016-17 season.

He was impressive in training camp and during the preseason so he got a “look” by the club. He passed that test and he’s been putting up good numbers. He has 12 points in his first 25 games which is a great start.

He is the son of NHL legend, Keith Tkachuk. As a star with the National Team Development Program there was talk of him being a Top 10 draft pick. Last year he starred for the London Knights. He put up 107 regular season points and added 40 more in the playoffs. He dominated and his team won the Memorial Cup as a result.

Most young players need to work on their defense or their speed before they can become everyday players in the best league on earth. Tkachuk worked very hard over the summer and fans got a sneak peek of him at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase. He looked bigger, stronger and faster in the game of shinny they played at the end of the session.

Matthew Tkachuk’s 2016-17 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns rookie card is red hot. He also has one in the Canadian exclusive, Parkhurst Hockey as well. Tkachuk has been declared the Flames pick for the Rookie Redemption cards from this year’s Artifacts Hockey as well.

However, be sure to look for him in upcoming 2016-17 hockey releases from Upper Deck including:

This rugged left winger has the hands and skills of a smaller player and the brute force of the kind of player who can set up the crease and wreak havoc on NHL goaltenders. It will take a while for him to become a 30-goal scorer but he has all the tools. He has a great shot, excellent vision, and he is hard to hold back in the offensive zone.

Here is a look at him getting the call at the NHL Draft:

I’d expect him to be an all-star caliber player with star potential.
