Future Watch: Max Veronneau NHL Hockey Cards, Toronto Maple Leafs – Max Veronneau was signed as an NCAA free agent by the Ottawa Senators in March 2019. This speedy forward is from a hockey family; his younger sister, Sophie,  skates at Yale University.

Veronneau played four solid years for the Princeton Tigers and was a leader with the team, wearing the “A” in his final season. In 130 games, he had 52 goals and 144 points. These are well above average numbers for any NCAA player in the last 10 years.

Veronneau was named to the NCAA ECAC Second All-American Team twice. In 2017-18, he was part of a terrific Princeton team that won the ECAC title. That year he was named to the ECAC First All-Star Team. In 2018-19, he was named to the Lowes Senior Class All-Americans First Team. He was a Hobey Baker nominee in his senior season as well. Veronneau holds two team records, including most points in a single season (55) in 2017-18. That year he also tied the record for assists in a single season (38) that had previously been held solo by John Messuri.

Noted for his superb academics, he’s a smart player on the ice as well. After his college career was over, he turned pro and played in 12 games for the Ottawa Senators in 2018-19. The next season he started out with the Belleville Senators in the AHL. In November, he had a four-game look in Ottawa and then back to the AHL where in total he put up five goals and five assists in 33 games.

In February 2020, Veronneau was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs and sent down to the AHL’s Marlies. He played three games for them before the Covid-19 pause.

Here’s a look at his first NHL goal:

Collectors can find his Young Guns Rookie Card in 2019-20 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey. Other RCs appear in Allure and Black Diamond among others. His first Maple Leafs cards should arrive in 2020-21 products.

Follow Veronneau’s career. Toronto is a good landing spot for him and he could surprise some in a year or two.
