Future Watch: Meibrys Viloria Rookie Baseball Cards, RoyalsFuture Watch: Meibrys Viloria Rookie Baseball Cards, Royals – Meibrys Viloria was signed as an international free agent by the Kansas City Royals in 2013.

In 2014, he played for Kansas City in the Dominican Summer League. In 111 at-bats the talented catcher hit .306 with two home runs and 20 RBI with eight doubles.

He played in rookie ball in 2015 for the Burlington Royals. There he had no homers and 16 RBI in 150 at-bats. He did have 27 assists in the field so that was a good sign for the backstop.

In 2016, he played for the Idaho Chukars in the Pioneer League. In 226 at-bats he had six homers, 55 RBI and a .376 average with 28 doubles. He was on his way.

In 2017, he was in Class-A playing for the Lexington Legends. In 363 at-bats he had 25 doubles, eight home runs, and 52 RBI. He hit .259 and sported a .986 fielding percentage and 86 assists.

One of Meibrys Viloria’s key card is his 2017 Bowman Baseball Chrome Prospects Autographed card.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

A shortstop when the Royals first worked him out, Viloria still is learning the nuances of catching. Though he led the Pioneer League backstops with 14 errors, he has solid arm strength and the hands to become an average receiver. He’ll have to watch his weight — it’s more than his listed 175 pounds — to retain his agility behind the plate and avoid becoming a true base-clogger.

Here’s a good look at him:

Injuries hit the Royals hard and Viloria was there to get an opportunity when the roster expanded in September 2018. In 27 at-bats, he had seven hits, 4 RBI and hit .259. That 10-game stint was good for the 21-year-old. He didn’t make an error and he threw out 3 of 8 base stealers. Keep an eye on him.
