Future Watch: Michael Soroka Baseball Rookie Cards, BravesFuture Watch: Michael Soroka Baseball Rookie Cards, Braves – Right-handed pitcher Michael Soroka was a first round pick in the 2015 MLB Draft as the 28th overall pick by the Atlanta Braves. He was selected out of Bishop Carroll High School in Alberta, Canada.

At 6′-5″, 210lbs., he sounds like an NHL defenseman but he’s a gifted pitcher. He already throws in the 90’s so now the Atlanta Braves will have the full attention of Braves fans. His native country of Canada has recently produced some great MLB players and his play will be a source of national pride for our neighbors to the North.

Soroka decided to sign immediately with the Braves foregoing an NCAA career. He was one of the youngest players in his draft class and played for two teams in 2015. After dipping his toe in A ball in 2015, he managed to get in 20 professional innings in 2016, he struck out 23, only gave up 4 earned runs, he had a microscopic 1.80 ERA and yet he posted a record of 0-2. All in all, for an 18-year-old he had a very good start to this season.

Soroka’s first MLB licensed autographed baseball card debuted with the release of 2015 Bowman Draft Baseball, card number BCA-MS.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

Soroka worked with pitching coach Chris Reitsma as part of the Canadian Junior National Team and has come a long way in the last year. He can get his fastball up to 94 mph, consistently sitting at 92 mph this spring. Both his curve and his changeup could eventually be above-average Major League offerings, with the latter currently being a bit ahead of the former. He has a projectable frame with the chance to get stronger and should have an easily repeatable delivery. ETA 2019.

Here’s an interview he gave that shows off his personalty:

Soroka is young and talented. The Braves aren’t going to rush him so this will allow collectors time to learn his name.
