Future Watch: Minnesota Wild Hockey Cards, Top Five Prospects: The Minnesota Wild are turning the corner and becoming a much-improved team. Some decent drafting and player development have helped. They participated in the playoff bubble last year, and they’re in the hunt this year.

Kirill Kaprizov was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft amid a six-year professional career in the KHL. His last three years were with CSKA, and that’s where he posted two seasons of at least 30 goals. In his last year, the winger tallied 62 points in 57 games. Kaprizov is only 5-9, but you have to catch him to affect his game, and few can do that. He can score goals or make a finesse pass with the best of them. This winger is hugely dangerous on the power play. He will be in the Calder Trophy conversation all season long barring an injury or illness.

Jordan Greenway is a rugged left wing who has a great set of hands and a strong body type to park himself in the crease and good luck moving him out of it. Gold medals follow him around. Greenway struck gold in the U17s, U18s, and U20s for Team USA. He was a Hockey East champion for Boston University, and he played in the Olympics in 2018. In his third full NHL season, Greenway has blossomed into almost a point-per-game player. The 6-6, 237-pound forward skates well and can score with his wrist shot too. Don’t sleep on this budding talent.

Kaapo Kahkonen was named the AHL’s Outstanding Goaltender for the 2019-20 season. While getting some NHL service time last season, the Finn turned into the backup at the start of the 2020-21 season when Alex Stalock came down with Covid-19 and has yet to come back. Getting a chance to play is what Kahkonen needs. He’s athletic and his positioning can get creative.

Marco Rossi got Covid-19, and that delayed his NHL career. The ninth overall pick from last year’s draft was then shutdown when his medicals came in after overcoming the symptoms. He will be fine, but he may not get to live out his dream until next season, and when that happens collectors will clamor over his rookie card.

Adam Beckman has started the 2020-21 season with the Iowa Wild and tallied his first pro-level goal amid his first three games. A third round pick by the Wild in 2017, Beckman had a monster season with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs last year, counting 107 points in 63 games. This Saskatoon, SK native has incredible hockey sense and, at 6-1, has a good frame for the rugged NHL. He’ll need to put more meat on his bones, but he has a good foundation to build on.
