Future Watch MLB Debut: Ronny Mauricio, New York Mets – Ronny Mauricio was the last of the New York Met’s talented top prospects to get the call-up to the big club in Flushing, Queens. Known for his athleticism, he had to find a position to play. He is a natural shortstop, but the Mets have arguably the best shortstop in baseball in Francisco Lindor. So, it took Mauricio a bit longer to make his MLB debut as a second baseman.
I’ve written before, a lot of top prospects get elevated while they’re in AA. Mauricio’s last season in AA was a good one. He hit 26 homers with 89 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 2021-22.
In 2022-23, Mauricio moved up play in AAA for the Syracuse Mets because of the log jam at the major league level. He was slugging all season with 30 doubles, 23 home runs, and 71 RBI with 24 steals. Fans were yelling for most of the season to bring him up, and the Mets did in September.
Mauricio got a hit in his first at-bat. It was a long double that had an exit velocity of 117.3 mph. In his first 10 games, he had five balls hit over 110 miles per hour. This is significant because he was a very skinny kid when the Mets first signed him, and now, he has man strength as he’s put on muscle.
Mauricio has long arms, and when he extends, the ball flies off his bat. He hit his first home run this week in front of the home fans. It landed 440 feet. In his first 36 at-bats, he’s hit 2 doubles, 1 home run, and 5 RBI with a .306 batting average. Mauricio has four steals, and he’s turning double plays in the infield. He’s a must collect star in the making.
Future Watch MLB Debut: Ronny Mauricio Cards Worth Chasing
One hot card is Mauricio’s 2019 Bowman Chrome 1st Mojo Image variation. It shows him wearing shades and no batting helmet with his bat in his hands.
Another card is his 2019 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph. The signature is clean on the action shot. It’s a desirable card.
One last card is his 2020 Bowman Chrome Draft. His Aqua Lava Refractor is numbered to just 199. It’s a hard to get card, but worth it if you can find it.
