Future Watch: Morgan Frost Rookie Hockey Cards, Flyers – Morgan Frost was drafted 27th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2017 NHL Draft. At the time, the 5-11 center was skinny, and under 170 pounds, and some teams passed on his worrying about his strength, could he get strong enough, and could he replicate his scoring at the next level?
Frost was a big hit with the Soo Greyhounds in his second year there getting 62 points and 20 goals. He played in the CHL Top Prospects Game. By the time years three and four rolled around he was getting more than just CHL Player of the Week accolades. He was close to leading the league in scoring in 2017-18 with 42 goals and 112 points, missing the title by three points. He was a more than a point-per-game in the playoffs getting 29 points in 24 games.
Twice voted an OHL First-Team All-Star he stayed in junior hockey for one more season in 2018-19. He scored 109 points, leading the league in helpers with 72 in just 58 games. He represented Team Canada in the U20 World Junior Championship and shined with eight points in five games. He played in 11 playoff games and scored seven goals with 18 points. That was the end of his exceptional junior career.
In 2019-20, Frost played in the NHL and the AHL. With the Phantoms, he had 13 goals and 29 points in 41 games. He had a few hot streaks that saw him get NHL time. He couldn’t stick there but he was close. His skating was good enough, but his strength wasn’t enough just yet. His hands and vision gave fans a thrill in Philadelphia. Before the stoppage, Frost appeared in 20 games for the Flyers, scoring two goals and five assists.
