Future Watch: Nathan Walker Rookie Hockey Cards, CapitalsFuture Watch: Nathan Walker Rookie Hockey Cards, CapitalsNathan Walker was drafted by the Washington Capitals with the 89th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He is Australian and currently this trailblazer is the first Aussie to play in the NHL.

In 2012-13 he came to North America to play for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. That season was a good one, he scored seven goals and had 27 points in 29 games.

In 2013-14 he played for the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL and the Hershey Bears in the AHL. He had eight points in 34 games combined, but it was a start.

The next season he scored 17 goals and 41 points in 73 games. He added five points in 20 playoff games. Things were looking up for the left winger.

For the 2016-17 season, he started the year with Hershey, was put on waivers, picked up by the Edmonton Oilers, played two games for them with no points, placed on waivers again, and picked up by the Capitals once again.

In 2017-18, he played 40 more games for Hershey scoring nine goals and 22 points. In early October he got called up by the Capitals, he was already the first Aussie to play in the NHL. That night he became the first to score with his parents in attendance! He played in six more games but didn’t add any points.

Here’s a look at that goal:

In Game 6 in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, Walker got an assist in a game that the Capitals eventually beat the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins in an OT thriller as they advanced to the Conference Finals. That playoff appearance was record setting again.

You can get his 2017-18 Upper Deck Young Guns rookie in Series 2 hockey. He also has rookies in O-Pee-Chee, SP Authentic and SP Game-Used to name a few.

At 5-9 he has good speed and enough skill to have a good NHL career. He’s just getting started at the age of 24. He may play in the Stanley Cup Final, who knows?
