Future Watch: Neal Pionk Rookie Hockey Cards, Jets – Neal Pionk was signed by the New York Rangers as a free agent in 2017. He played for a very good program in Minnesota Duluth before he turned pro.
He joined Duluth in 2015-16 after a successful run with the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL where he was voted best defenseman and led all blueliners in points and assists. He got 17 points in his first season in college.
In 2016-17, he had a big year. In 42 games he had seven goals and 34 points. He was a +24 on the season and he made it to the National Championship game but was on the losing team. The New York Rangers took notice and that was the end of his NCAA career.
In 2017-18 he started out the year with Hartford in the AHL. Having a solid year with Hartford the Rangers called him up in February. He put up 14 points in 28 games. He looked good playing with better players. His numbers in Hartford were 17 points in 48 games. After the season ended, he represented Team USA in the World Championships where he had three points in 10 games. He took home a bronze medal.
Last season with the Rangers he had six goals and 20 assists in his rookie season. Soon to be 24, he was traded in the Jacob Trouba deal and is now with the Winnipeg Jets. They immediately signed him and he’s now with a strong team out West.
