Future Watch: New York Jets Football Cards, trio to collect – The New York Jets had two wins in the 2020 season. The positive part about it was the fact that the Jets have the second pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. At this point, it’s hard to tell who their choice will be, but there’s time for that. In the meantime, Gang Green has started to produce some exciting players, and that’s what this represents. It represents the future and not the past. This could be the year where real change starts to occur in this franchise.
Sam Darnold was drafted third overall in 2018, and at the time, the management who drafted him believed he would be the quarterback of the future. Three full seasons later, with a lot of bad personnel surrounding this potential franchise quarterback, we’re no closer to knowing if he’s “the guy”. He has the physical tools: the strong arm, the ability to throw on the run, off the back foot, and the ability to run for big yardage if he’s allowed. His interceptions have come at bad times, but many times, Darnold was trying to make something happen. In the end, he may still get 2021 to prove himself. If not, a lot of teams will try to trade for him.

Denzel Mims was drafted 59th overall in 2020. This 6-3 wide receiver is fast, but injuries derailed part of his season. He managed to play in nine games, but he never got into the endzone. He’s going to win a lot of 50-50 balls when he gets physically stronger. He isn’t afraid to go over the middle, and he knows how to go beyond the sticks for first downs. He could be a solid #2 receiver for somebody this season, and the Jets hope he starts to find the back of the endzone more frequently. For him buy now, his rookies could increase in value as soon as next season.

Mekhi Becton is a 6-7, 360-pound offensive lineman who can play multiple positions. Even with a few nagging injuries, this rookie phenom managed to play for 70 percent of the teams’ offensive snaps. “Mount Becton” put multiple laughing emojis on his Instagram account as a reaction to not being named to the Pro Bowl. A year wiser, with some better conditioning, Becton will become a huge asset for the New York Jets quarterback next season.
