Future Watch: Nick Merkley Rookie Hockey Cards, CoyotesFuture Watch: Nick Merkley Rookie Hockey Cards, CoyotesNick Merkley was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes with the 30th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. This 5-10, 194-pound right winger has what it takes to play at the NHL level someday and he’s progressing at a good rate.

The Calgary, Alberta native played five seasons in the WHL for the Kelowna Rockets. After playing 245 games there it’s hard to believe he will turn 21 in May. During his time in Kelowna he had 85 goals and 259 points. In 2014-15 he won a gold in the Hlinka tournament and played in the CHL Top Prospects game. His team was the WHL champs and played in the Memorial Cup. He had the most assists in the playoffs.

This former WHL rookie of the year has a ton of talent. As a rookie in the AHL he has 39 points in 38 games. His 18 goals are impressive in a league that’s very hard to play in. This window has given him a real chance to get a long look at training camp next season.

You can find a Young Guns rookie card of him in 2017-18 Upper Deck Series 2 hockey. If you’re looking for his pre-NHL cards you can look for 2014-15 Top prospects and a few more from Leaf.

Merkley played his first NHL game December 19, 2017. He got 13:30 of ice time. He didn’t get his first NHL goal, but his parents were at the game and that appearance gave him the spark to play his best in hopes of getting another shot in the future.

Here’s a video of him the morning before his big game:

Good things come to those who wait. This prospect will wait for his shot to be an NHL regular, and when he gets it, he can be a very exciting player to watch and collect.
