Future Watch: Nicolas Roy Rookie Hockey Cards, Hurricanes – Nicolas Roy was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. At 6-4, 193 pounds this versatile forward has been over-ripening in the AHL, and the proof is in the pudding.
In 2014, he played his first season in Chicoutimi in the QMJHL. In 63 games he had 16 goals and 41 points. He got in four playoff games as well. He played in the Top Prospects Game, won a Gold in the Hlinka Memorial tournament and a bronze in the U18s. He was off and running.
In 2014-15, he had identical goal totals and reached 50 points. He added five points in as many playoff games.
In 2015-16 he blew up. He had 48 goals and 90 points in 63 games. In six playoff games, he had seven points. He had the most goals in the league and was a first-team All-Star.
The accolades kept coming as he put up an 80-point season in 2016-17 and 21 points in 17 playoff games. He turned pro and played two games with Charlotte as a reward.
In 2017-18 he had 11 goals and 38 points in 73 games as a pro. He had three points in the playoffs as well. As a reward, he played one game in Carolina.
In 2018-19, Roy still didn’t make the Hurricanes jam-packed roster. Instead, he played another season with the Checkers. He had 17 goals and 36 points in 69 games. In the playoffs, he had six goals and 15 points in 19 games. At the age of 22, he was a part of a championship team.
