Future Watch: Nikita Gusev Rookie Hockey Cards, DevilsFuture Watch: Nikita Gusev Rookie Hockey Cards, DevilsNikita Gusev was signed by the New Jersey Devils as a free agent in the 2019 offseason. He never played a minute of hockey in North America; he came straight from the KHL in Russia at the age of 27.

Since 2010-11, this fast-left winger has been playing in the KHL. It wasn’t until 2014-15 with Yugra did he break through with a 21 goal, 37-point season.

The next year he got dealt to SKA and his combined numbers were 20 goals and 49 points in 56 games. He did add 14 points in 15 postseason games.

In 2016-17, he shined with SKA getting 71 points in 57 games, 24 of those points were goals. He had seven goals and 23 points in 18 playoff games. He won a Gagarin Cup as well. He added seven goals and seven assists in 14 games in the World Championships.

In 2017-18, he had 22 goals and 17 goals the next season. That last season with SKA in 2018 he had 82 points in 62 games, leading the KHL in points! He added 12 points in six Olympic games and was voted one of the top skaters. The Devils went after him and landed him.

Collectors can get a Young Guns Canvas rookie of this Russian player in 2019-20 Upper Deck Hockey Series 1. He has other rookies in Black Diamond, Parkhurst, Trilogy, and Artifacts to name a few.

Here’s a look at his first NHL goal:

In his first 49 games in 2019-20, Gusev scored nine goals and added 22 helpers. Three of those goals were on the power play and he won a game as well. He had two three-point games and was getting better as the season rolled on as his first in the NHL. He had to make the transition to North America and even though the Devils team isn’t as good as they were expected to be, he has been a very good contributor and should be in the future.
