Future Watch: Paxton Lynch, Rookie Football Cards, Broncos – The young rookie quarterback out of Memphis, Paxton Lynch saw his first NFL action this weekend. Surprise starter, Trevor Siemian, went down with an injury at the end of the first half of yesterday’s game against the Buccaneers.
The back-up quarterback immediately took control of the team, leading them down the field to score a field goal. Before weather delayed the fourth quarter with less than seven minutes remaining, Lynch went 14-of-24 with 170 yards, 1 touchdown and no interceptions.
The Denver Broncos traded up five spots in the 2016 NFL Draft to select Paxton Lynch with the 26th overall pick. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Lynch is a physical specimen for the modern quarterback, standing 6′-7″ and 244lbs. He played two years at Memphis, starting all 26 games. He declared for the 2016 NFL Draft, forgoing his senior year of eligibility. He put up very impressive NCAA statistics (* indicates bowl games included):
Paxton Lynch’s NFL Draft Profile states: “He knows he has some work to do. On the positive side, Lynch has elite arm talent and athletic ability. What he needs to work on is that he’s never been in a huddle, never been under center, and never done a five-step drop let alone a seven-step drop.” – Mike Mayock, NFL Draft Analyst
