Future Watch: Phil Foden Rookie Soccer Cards, Manchester City – 19-year old Phil Foden joined Manchester City at the U9 level and has been working his way up thru the ranks of the Cityzens. Foden is a sleek midfielder with all the skills necessary to dominate a match. He has vision and a classy first touch and can attack off the dribble with either foot. His left foot is particularly lethal for defenses and he finishes very well. He is unselfish and will likely rack up assists as his playing time increases.
While Foden still looks to establish himself in the City starting XI, he has been on the radar of manager Pep Guardiola for some time. Guardiola included Foden in City’s 18 in the Champions League in a November 2016 group stage match against Scottish giants Celtic. Nearly a year later, again in the Champions League, the young phenom got his senior City debut in a match against Feyenoord.
Last season, in 26 appearances over all competitions, Foden scored seven goals and tallied this season in a Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb. He has represented England internationally throughout his youth career, leading his country and helping them win the 2017 U17 World Cup in India. Foden had two goals in the win in the Final over Spain and was given the Golden Ball award as the tournament’s best player. He is still looking for his first cap at the senior international level.
Manchester City believe they have their future playmaker already in the fold in Foden and have committed to him long term. They signed him to a contract last December that has Foden set to wear the sky blue until 2024.
Collectors can find Foden’s cards in 2018-19 Donruss Soccer and 2019-20 Panini Prizm English Premier League. He also has cards in Topps’ Living Set.
