Future Watch: Radek Faksa Hockey Rookie Cards, Stars – While he isn’t a household name, Radek Faksa is a player that collectors should put on their radar. He was the 13th overall pick in 2012 but when the Dallas Stars drafted him they knew he’d be a bit of a work in progress.
The 6′-3″, 210lb center was primarily known for his physical game in the defensive zone. His defense was always pretty good but it was his offensive game that was in question. Sometimes, bigger players can take a bit longer to put their full skill set together. Now at the age of 22 this seems to have been the case with this talented Czech prospect.
For a big player, Faksa skates well. He has ice vision can to be both a shooter and a play-maker. While he does have some finesse to his game, the foundation is all predicated on a lot of hard work. In his first 43 games playing for the Dallas Stars he has 5 goals, 5 assists, and 48 hits. He is excellent on face-offs winning 48.9% of his draws, which is very good for a rookie. He blocks shots and he takes away a lot more pucks then he coughs up and that could come in handy during the playoffs.
When Faksa is on the ice, his line has a knack for puck possession. A solid fore-check and the ability for the line to cycle the puck, often leads to quality scoring chances. When the game gets tight and space is an issue, Faksa can work in tight quarters.
Every team needs players like Faksa and this is why the Stars drafted him as high as they did. Now that his team has a great chance to win the Stanley Cup he will have the opportunity to be an important contributor down the stretch.
