Future Watch: Rasmus Dahlin Rookie Hockey Cards, Sabres

Future Watch: Rasmus Dahlin Rookie Hockey Cards, SabresFuture Watch: Rasmus Dahlin Rookie Hockey Cards, SabresRasmus Dahlin was selected by the Buffalo Sabres with the first overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Still, 18, the Swede’s path to the NHL was nothing short of impressive.

This talented defenseman had been playing in the Swedish Hockey League, against men, since 2016-17. In 2017, he experienced a Champions League championship and the next year he had the most points for an under 18 player when he notched 20.

For those same two seasons, he got to play for Team Sweden in the U20 World Junior Championship. In the 2018 tournament, he had six points in seven games. He was voted an All-Star, best defenseman and a top three player on his team. He got a silver medal for his trouble.

No matter who drafted him, he was going to play in the NHL right away. He made the Sabres out of training camp and like any 18-year-old, it took him a while to figure out the North American ice and the best league in the world.

In his first 24 games, he managed to score two goals and notch 11 assists. The Sabres had a great showing in the early part of the season and Dahlin is a big reason why.

Collectors are gobbling up his 2018-19 Upper Deck Series One Young Guns rookie card as well as Parkhurst and Artifacts to name a few.

Listen to former NHLer, Martin Biron talk about the great play of Dahlin:

Dahlin is likely too far behind to win the Calder but he still could be named a finalist if he continues his upward swing. He is already the best defenseman on the Buffalo Sabres and will be a perennial All-Star, and a Young Star this year for sure, besides a serious candidate to win the Norris Trophy in the next few years.
