Future Watch: Rhys Hoskins Rookie Baseball Cards, Phillies – Rhys Hoskins was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft. At the time there was little fanfare, that’s all changed based on this season.

Since he was drafted he has climbed from Short A (Williamsport Crosscutters) to AAA with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. His numbers continued to climb as he moved up the ladder. However, it was his year with Reading, in 2016, that seemed to be the turning point. That season he slugged 38 home runs with 116 RBI in 135 games. As a result, Hoskins took home the league’s Rookie of the Year award.

This season in Lehigh he had 29 homers and 91 RBI with a .284 average and 24 doubles in 115 games. He walked away with the International League MVP and Rookie of the Year awards. And, believe it or not, the best was yet to come.

He was called up on August 10th, of this year to face the New York Mets and pitcher Jason deGrom. He went hitless in his debut in Philadelphia. His family was in attendance for  the home stand and they saw him get his first hit in the finale of the four-game series. He did drive in one run but he was struggling.

Since that series, Hoskins has been one of the hottest hitters in Major League Baseball. He set an MLB record with 10 homers in his first 17 games. In his first 25 games he has 11 homers, 25 RBI, 19 runs scored and a .303 batting average. That’s an amazing start for any player.

Here’s a look at those taters:

Rhys Hoskins first cards debuted in 2014 Bowman Draft Baseball. His first autographed cards can be found in 2016 Panini Elite Extra Edition.

The California-born outfielder now is the reason the Phillies have hope for the future. He’s the one young player they weren’t counting on this soon and now he may be the most important one in their system.
