Future Watch: Riley Greene Rookie Baseball Cards, TigersFuture Watch: Riley Greene Rookie Baseball Cards, TigersRiley Greene was drafted by the Detroit Tigers with the fifth overall pick in the 2019 MLB Amateur Draft. At 6-3, 200 pounds, this outfielder could be the next big prospect in major league baseball. He hit .422 in high school and his next stop was the MLB draft.

In 2019, he got 221 at-bats in rookie ball, A- ball with the Connecticut Tigers and the Western Michigan Whitecaps in A-ball. He had five homers and 28 RBI. His eight doubles, three triples and .347 on-base percentage with 34 runs scored in 57 games were very productive. At 19, he’s just getting ready to make an impact.

He went from high school to minor league ball and he thrived. He is one of the most important players in the Tigers pipeline. If they’re going to be a good team again, he is going to be a big part of it.

According to his MLB.com Prospect Profile:

Greene can flat-out hit, boasting a terrific approach with a smooth but explosive swing from the left side of the plate. It’s more of a line-drive approach right now, but he did start driving the ball more over the summer and he’ll show excellent raw power in batting practice, especially to the pull side. Greene improved his athleticism and moved better during his senior year, both down the line and in the outfield. He still profiles best as a corner outfielder, which might mean left field because of a less-than-average arm. Greene’s advanced feel to hit along with his effortless raw power leads scouts to believe that his power will emerge earnestly in games as he adds strength to his projectable frame. Though he’ll need time to develop, the final product could be that of a middle-of-the-order run producer who hits for both average and power. ETA 2023.

The Tigers are rebuilding, and Greene is expected to help lead them through it down the road.
