Future Watch: Ronald Jones Rookie Football Cards, Buccaneers– Ronald Jones was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 38th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. His career had a nice arc at the University of Southern California.
As a freshman in 2015, he had 153 carries for 987 yards and eight touchdowns. He caught seven balls for 39 yards and added one more touchdown. A heck of a first year.
In 2016, he carried the rock 177 times for 1,082 yards and 12 touchdowns. He caught nine passes for 73 yards and another touchdown. His arc was going up and it would continue.
In his junior year, he had an amazing 261 carries for 1,550 yards and 19 touchdowns. He had 14 catches for 167 yards and a 13.3 yards per catch average, he did catch one touchdown as well. After that stellar season where he was voted an All-Pac-12 player, he decided to forego his senior year and head into the NFL Draft.
At 5-11, 208 pounds the Georgia native headed into the NFL combine and he ran a 4.65, 40-yard dash. He added a nice vertical leap of 36.5 inches.
At the draft, the thought was Jones would be taken around the end of the first round. When that didn’t happen, the Bucs jumped at the chance to grab him.
He had a good training camp but sat a few games before seeing action. In his first game, he had 10 carries for 29 yards against the Chicago Bears at the end of September. He played in three other games in October and found the end zone once. He was catching a few balls as well but he’s still seeing limited time.
Here’s a look at him in preseason:
A hamstring injury in November caused him to miss games. There’s no doubt the Bucs will start to use him more as the season rolls on since they’re not a playoff team, developing him into a #1 back will be a priority.
