Future Watch: Royce Freeman Rookie Football Cards, Broncos – Royce Freeman was drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 73rd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. At 6-0, 229 pounds, this powerful runner came with amazing credentials.
He started out playing his college ball for the University of Oregon in 2014. That season he had 1,365 yards, a school record for a freshman, with 18 rushing touchdowns and one receiving. Those 19 freshman touchdowns were another school record. He was awarded the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
In 2015, he had 1,836 yards and 17 touchdowns. His long run was a 64-yard score. He added two receiving touchdowns as well.
In 2016, a right leg injury limited his production, in 11 games he still had 945 yards, nine rushing touchdowns, and an 85-yard touchdown run.
In 2017, he returned to form with 1,475 yards and 16 touchdowns. That gave him 5,621 yards in his Oregon career, a school record as well as his 60 touchdowns, another school record. Yet, somehow, he slipped into the third round. Some may look back at this draft and point this out in greater detail.
Here’s a look at his first preseason game with the Broncos:
This season it may take a while for him to be the feature back, but collectors should be in on him now. He could be one of the better stories, bigger surprises at any position this season. Denver has a great line and they aren’t afraid to run the ball which plays into the 22-year-old’s hands.
