Future Watch: Rusney Castillo Baseball Rookie Cards, Boston Red Sox – Following in the footsteps of Yoenis Cespedes is yet another young star in the making. His name is Rusney Castillo. After defecting from his homeland, Cuba, he signed a lucrative 6-year, $72.5 deal with the Boston Red Sox.

The now 28-year-old got into 10 games with the Red Sox in 2014 and he hit two homers while hitting .333. In 2015 he played in 80 games, getting 273 at bats hitting 10 doubles, 5 homers and 29 RBI. He had 4 steals in 9 attempts and posted a .253 batting average. It was a learning experience for sure.

Next year is his year. He won’t be going to winter ball. They want him rested up so he can play everyday in the Fenway Park outfield. Will he play in center, right or left is the question? One thing is for sure, he’s going to have a positive impact on his club.

This future star was an all-star in the 2011 World Cup of Baseball. He batted .512 with a slugging percentage of .854. Clearly those aren’t numbers he will carry over into this year but it’s a glimpse of his potential. When he’s completely comfortable, he is something to watch.

Here’s his first career home run. A blast over the Green Monster:

Good news for collectors is there is no shortage of Rusney Castillo rookie cards. His first cards were released in 2014 products including Panini Elite Extra Edition and Leaf Trinity. 2015 saw the debut of his official rookie cards in practically every single baseball product release from both Panini America and Topps.

Rusney is still a bit of a mystery. He still doesn’t have 500 at-bats in the big leagues. 2016 could be his breakout year.
