Future Watch: Ryan Mountcastle Rookie Baseball Cards, OriolesFuture Watch: Ryan Mountcastle Rookie Baseball Cards, Orioles – Ryan Mountcastle was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round of the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft. This infielder starred at Paul J Haggerty High School in Oviedo, Florida. He went from there, to the draft, to professional baseball. Here is a look at his stat highlights, year-by-year, post-draft.

  • 2015 (Rookie Ball) .314 BA, three homers, 14 RBI
  • 2016 (A-Ball,Delmarva Shorebirds) .282 BA, 10 homers, 51 RBI
  • 2017 (A+ and AA ball) .287 BA, 18 homers, 48 doubles, 62 RBI
  • 2018 (AA, Bowie Baysox) .297 BA, 19 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs,59 RBI

According to his MLB.com Prospect Profile:

Guys who can hit tend to make their way to the big leagues, and that’s exactly what Mountcastle has done ever since the Orioles took him out of the Florida high school ranks at the very end of the first round of the 2015 Draft. He mashed his way to Double-A at age 20 in 2017, made the Futures Game in 2018 and then took home MVP honors in the Triple-A International League in 2019 while also earning the Orioles’ Brooks Robinson Minor League Player of the Year award. All of those accomplishments led to a spot on the 40-man roster following the 2019 season.

Mountcastle has shown an innate ability to barrel up baseballs at every level in his climb up the organizational ladder. He can drive the ball to all fields and he started to tap into his raw power more consistently in 2019, with career highs in home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage. He has the chance to hit for both average and power, though he does need to work on his plate discipline in order to have continued success at the big league level, with some concerned that his walk rate went down and his strikeout rate went up last season. ETA: 2020

Here he is showing off his power:

Ryan Mountcastle already has a ton of cards in the market. His first cards appeared in 2014 Bowman as part of the Under Armour All-American set and 2014 Leaf Metal Perfect Game. His first Bowman cards, including autographed versions, were issued in 2015 Bowman Draft. That year, he also had cards issued by Panini America in Elite Extra Edition. He also had cards issued again by Leaf Trading Cards in Metal Draft and Trinity.

Mountcastle has had several other cards issued since 2015. However, his most in-demand, and expansive card, continues to be his Chrome Draft Picks autograph from 2015 Bowman Draft.

In 2019, he played the entire season in AAA for the Norfolk Tides. He hit 35 doubles, 25 home runs and 83 RBI and a .312 batting average. He looked good this spring and when play resumes, he will be with the Orioles at some point. Collect him during the pause before he resumes hitting home runs.
