Future Watch: Semi Ojeleye Rookie Basketball Cards, CelticsFuture Watch: Semi Ojeleye Rookie Basketball Cards, Celtics – The Celtics currently have the Bucks on the ropes in their first-round playoff match-up. With a 3-2 lead, Boston can eliminate Milwaukee with a win tonight. It will be tough, as the Bucks have taken both of their home games. However, the Celtics might have figured out a way to stifle Milwaukee’s offense with rookie forward Semi Ojeleye.

Ojeleye’s parents hail from Nigeria and emigrated to Kansas where Semi was born. The Overland Park native starred at Ottawa High School and in 2013 was named Parade Magazine’s National Player of the Year. He would commit to play college ball for Duke. After two seasons on relatively stacked Blue Devils rosters, Ojeleye elected to transfer out of the school in search of a larger role. He would land at SMU and sat out his junior season as a redshirt transfer.

Changing schools was a big help for Ojeleye and he flourished at SMU. In 2016-17, he led the team to American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships along with an NCAA Tournament berth. His numbers that year: 18.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game helped him earn AAC Player of the Year honors. Ojeleye entered his name for the 2017 NBA Draft, but did not hire an agent. This left open the possibility of a return to SMU. After a strong performance at the draft combine, Ojeleye announced he would fully commit to the draft.

Versatile forwards are extremely valuable in today’s NBA. Ojeleye’s talents earned him a lot of buzz heading into draft day. Scouts praised his ability to create his own shot and capability to switch on defense. He performed well in pre-draft interviews, appearing well-spoken and intelligent with a professional approach to the game. He couldn’t have found a better landing spot when the Celtics took him 37th overall on draft night.

Despite some crucial injuries, Boston has an incredibly deep and talented roster. They also have a top-5 coach in Brad Stevens. In Boston’s 92-87 win in Game 5 of their playoff series with the Bucks, Ojeleye played 31 minutes and did his best to hold the pesky Milwaukee offense in check. Shortly after the win, Stevens announced Ojeleye would start Game 6 in Milwaukee. He may not fill up his stat sheet, but if he can hold the Bucks in check on defense, he will have done his job. Ojeleye is in a fantastic position to develop in the NBA and demand for his rookie cards will surely grow.
