Future Watch: Shake Milton Basketball Cards, Philadelphia 76ers – is replicating, through his third year in the NBA, what he managed through four seasons at SMU: steady growth that has already led this hard worker to out-produce the profile of a late second-round draft pick who spent part of his first season in the G-League.

The catalyst for his continued opportunities to improve came last March 1 during an ABC game against the LA Clippers. With the 76ers in the midst of a predictable swoon after losing Joel Embiid to injury, Milton amazed the world with 39 points – including seven-of-nine on threes – and five assists in a powerful breakthrough.

With Ben Simmons still failing to develop an outside shot, then-Coach Brett Brown soon pulled the plug on Simmons’ play at point guard, moving the big Aussie to power forward and handing the reigns down the stretch at the one to Milton. The experiment wasn’t enough to propel Philadelphia to any success in the Orlando bubble and soon Brown found himself replaced by Doc Rivers – who, coincidentally, had stared in amazement from the opposite sideline during Milton’s biggest game six months earlier.

Due in large part to his late-season promotion, Milton advanced in most statistical categories from his first season to his second, most notably in points (4.4 to 9.4), field goal percentage (.391 to .484), three-point percentage (.318 to .430) and assists (0.9 to 2.6). Still, on a roster jammed with high-priced talent and a mandate to win now, Milton’s role coming into this season was going to be predicated on the usage of other players, particularly Simmons. With the coach moving Big Ben back to the point, Milton is no longer a starter, but is still a huge favorite of the new coach – who envisions this combo guard as the type of impact Sixth Man such as Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford that he has previously employed.

As promised, the minutes have actually been more plentiful and with the opportunity, Milton’s assists have risen incrementally and his points are up more than five per game. Now in a well-defined role as part of a strong cast on the East’s winningest team, Shake Milton continues his upward growth in a manner that is uncommon in today’s NBA.

Shake Milton rookie cards appear in 2018-19 products and he has been announced to be part of the 2020-21 Panini Hoops set.
