Future Watch: Sixto Sanchez Rookie Baseball Cards, Phillies – Sixto Sanchez was signed as an undrafted amateur free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2015. This right-handed pitching prospect is just 19 and yet he’s drawing some comparisons to Hall of Fame hurler, Pedro Martinez. It may be too soon for that but it’s abundantly clear the Phillies do have a player.
He played for the Gulf Coast Phillies in 2016. His record was a spotless 5-0 with a .050 earned run average. In 54 innings he struck out 44 batters while walking just eight with an astounding .076 WHIP.
In 2017 he pitched for the Lakewood Blue Claws a lot closer to the Phillies home base in A-ball. The Dominican prospect was 5-4 with a 2.41 ERA. In 67 innings he struck out 64 batters. He had a .082 WHIP and that got him promoted.
He went to finish out the season in A+ ball with the Clearwater Threshers. In 27 innings he struck out 20. His WHIP was higher at 1.30 and he had a 4.55 ERA with an 0-4 record. He had met his match. That can happen late in a season to a young player, especially pitchers.
Collectors can get his 2017 Bowman Chrome autographed rookie card.
According to his MLB.com draft profile
A very efficient strike-thrower, Sanchez isn’t the tallest right-hander in the world, but he has plenty of arm. He’ll throw his fastball consistently in the 93-96 mph range and was up to 97-98 mph at times last summer. He separates himself from others at his level because of his outstanding fastball command, throwing his heater with movement in the zone that gets ground-ball outs and swings and misses. His curve is developing and could be a plus pitch in the future, and he has a good feel for his changeup. He’s strong and athletic, repeating his delivery well. ETA 2020. Ranked 47 in the Top 100 in baseball.
Here’s a good look at him:
