Future Watch: Stanley Johnson Basketball Rookie Cards, Detroit Pistons – The 6′-7″, 245lb, small forward from the University of Arizona is quick, athletic and a determined competitor. The Detroit Pistons selected Johnson in the first round with the 8th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. His list of amateur accomplishments in NCAA, high school and international competition are impressive.
Stanley Johnson played one year at Arizona and was named PAC-12 Freshman of the Year in 2015 and First Team All Pac-12. A former McDonald’s High School All-American, he won the prestigious California Mr. Basketball award in 2014. A seasoned veteran of international competition, he was a member of three FIBA gold medal winning teams in U16, U17 and U18 competition.
At Arizona, Johnson averaged 28.4 minutes, 13.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per-game. Those subpar numbers are in no way indicative of his skill as he showed in this year’s NBA Summer League. On July 22, 2015, the Pistons signed him to a rookie scale contract after averaging a team-high 16.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocks in five summer league games.
