Future Watch: Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Cards, trio to collect – The Tampa Bay Lightning are the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Most teams who reach the top of the mountain don’t have a lot of top prospects. This organization does, and their trio has a lot of integral experience.

Mitchell Stephens was drafted 33rd overall in the 2015 Draft. This talented center made a name for himself with the Saginaw Spirit. He played four seasons there, eventually becoming the team captain. In 209 games, he scored 73 goals with 87 assists. Saginaw traded him in 2016-17 to London where he finished the OHL season, after which he saw time in three playoff games with Syracuse to finish out his year. He also won a silver medal with Team Canada in the U20 World Junior Championship and had five points in five games. For the two seasons following that, Stephens played for Syracuse, putting up good numbers, So much so that during the 2019-20 season, Stephens won a job with Tampa and saw playoff time during the Lightning’s Stanley Cup run. In 2020-21, Stephens has seen time with Tampa and Syracuse, still showing off his speed and playmaking ability.

Cal Foote was drafted 14th overall in 2017. Cal is the son of longtime D-man Adam Foote and brother of New Jersey Devils prospect Nolan Foote. This 6-4, 227-pound defenseman has a nasty side to his game, but he can skate the puck up the ice and create offense as well. Foote spent three years with the Kelowna Rockets, ending his run there as a captain. In 2017-18, after the OHL season, he signed with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch and got in some regular and postseason games. During that year, he was part of Team USA’s gold medal win at the U20 World Junior Championship. In 2019-20, he played in the AHL until they halted play due to Covid-19. In 2020-21, Foote made his NHL debut in the home opener and since then has seen time in both the AHL and NHL.

Maxim Cajkovic was drafted in the third round, 89th overall, by Tampa in 2019. The Bratislava, Sovakia-born right winger spent his early developing years at home before coming to Canada to play for the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs in 2018. That first year, he tallied 46 points, including 22 goals, in 60 games and followed it up in 2019-20 with 42 points in 36 games before all CHL leagues shut down. The QMJHL has struggled to get games in once again in 2020-21, but Cajkovic made the most of his opportunities, counting 14 points in 12 games with Val-d’Or. He has also spent time this year back home with the Bratislava Capitals of the ICEHL, putting together 17 points in 27 games. Cajkovic’s biggest upside is his puck-moving skill and should join the Lightning sooner rather than later.
