Future Watch: Tanner Tessmann Soccer Cards, FC Dallas – FC Dallas continues to excel with their academy and young prospects in MLS. In past columns, I’ve discussed the future of former FC Dallas players Weston McKennie and Reggie Cannon. Both have made their way in European football. Now, I want to highlight a young player at the MLS club who has a bright future in the game.
Tanner Tessmann signed as a Homegrown player for FC Dallas in February of 2020 after coming through the FC Dallas youth academy. He was recruited by Clemson to play American football, but chose to go pro in soccer instead. He made the correct choice. Tessmann was recently named to participate in a US U-23 camp taking place in Florida and looks to have a bright future internationally.
Tessmann is a smart, young defensive midfielder. The 19-year old is big, strong and tough and he is not afraid to dig into his defensive responsibilities. But he also shows skill with the ball at his feet and uses his size to make it very difficult to move him off the ball.
He made nine starts (19 overall appearances) in 2020 with one assist. On that assist, you could see his soccer brain at work. Tessmann made a great run to receive a ball at the top of the area, then played a perfectly deft little touch back into the path of his teammate, who had space and finished nicely.
ESPN recently reported that Tessmann will train with world football power Bayern Munich during this MLS offseason. Upon hearing this news, a fan video popped up on YouTube welcoming the young star to his new surroundings:
Tanner Tessmann can currently be found in 2020 Topps MLS, but future cardboard could come from European league sets.
