Future Watch: Taro Hirose Rookie Hockey Cards, Red WingsFuture Watch: Taro Hirose Rookie Hockey Cards, Red Wings Taro Hirose was signed as a free agent by the Detroit Red Wings last March. He was 23 at the time and he already had played a lot of hockey in his amateur career.

He played in prep school in 2011-12, then the BCHL for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, where he had 71 points in 58 games in his second season there in 2015-16. He had five points in six playoff games too.

In 2016-17, he joined Michigan State where he scored 24 points in 34 games.

In 2017-18, he had 12 goals and 42 points in 36 games.

His third year was a breakthrough for the left winger. While wearing the “A” for the team he had 15 goals and 50 points in 36 games. That was a heck of a year. He led the nation in points, assists, PPG and multi-point games. He was a finalist for the Big Ten Player of the Year Award – – which he won. He was a first-team All-American as well.

He turned pro and got to play for the Red Wings towards the end of the season. He played 10 games burning one year of his deal, but he showed well. He had seven points in 10 games.

Collectors can find rookie cards of him in 2019-20 Upper Deck MVP and O-Pee-Chee so far with more releases on the horizon.

Here’s a look at his first NHL goal:

As a carryover rookie, he’s top shelf. He should make the Red Wings out of camp; he’s already looking good in the preseason. He could be a player that gets Calder consideration, although the field is full of great players, he could be a bit of a surprise there. Until Series 1 comes out, he’s a player to add ASAP.
