Future Watch: Terrin Vavra Rookie Baseball Cards, RockiesFuture Watch: Terrin Vavra Rookie Baseball Cards, RockiesTerrin Vavra was drafted in 2018 by the Colorado Rockies in the third round of the MLB Amateur Draft. The Wisconsin Native went and honed his skills at the University of Minnesota right out of high school.

As a Freshman (6-1, 185) in 2016, this infielder made 28 starts, 32 appearances hitting a torrid .358 with six doubles, two triples, one home run, and a .467 slugging percentage.

In 2017, the shortstop started in 50 games with two home runs and 19 RBI with 26 runs scored. He added seven steals and was named to the Dairy Queen Classic All-Tournament Team.

In 2018, he was a batting champion earning the Paul Molitor Award hitting an eye-popping .386. He had 10 home runs, four triples, and 59 RBI in 50 games! He had a .614 slugging percentage and was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-America First Team. Baseball America’s First Team and a few others. He was ready to be drafted.

His dad, Joe, is the current quality control coach for the Detroit Tigers. He was a Twins coach from 2006-2017. He played some ball, and his older brother, Trey, has been in the Twins organization and has played Australian baseball.

According to his MLB.com draft profile

A stress fracture in his back truncated his freshman season and continued to bother him as a sophomore, but Vavra finally is showing what he’s capable of offensively now that he’s fully healthy. He makes repeated line-drive contact with ease, thanks to his smooth left-handed stroke and advanced approach. He also has some sneaky raw power and could hit 15 homers per season as a pro. Scouts rave about Vavra’s baseball IQ and makeup as much as his tools. He’s just an average runner out of the batter’s box but is quicker underway and his instincts help him make things happen on the bases and in the field. He doesn’t have the plus range and arm teams want at shortstop, so he might wind up as an offensive second baseman. ETA 2021.

Collectors can get his 2018 Bowman Draft autographed rookie card.

Here he is in action:

Last year with the Boise Hawks in Short-A he hit .302 with four homers, 26 RBI and nine steals in 44 games. His first professional home run was a walk-off grand slam. There’s something special about this player.
