Future Watch: Torii Hunter Jr., Rookie Baseball Cards, AngelsFuture Watch: Torii Hunter Jr., Rookie Baseball Cards, Angels – Torii Hunter Jr. was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 26th round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft. At the time, he was a two-sport star at Notre Dame. He has a great baseball pedigree thanks to his father who played in 2,372 major league games.

In 2016, Hunter was second on Notre Dame in receiving. He had 38 catches for 521 yards and three touchdowns. Even with those very good numbers he decided to pass on college football and start a professional baseball career.

At 6′, 190 pounds he has all the measurables to be a solid left fielder. This season he played for the Orem Owlz in the Pioneer League. In 213 at-bats he had ten doubles, three triples and 28 runs batted in. He did have a homer, 13 steals and a smoking .352 batting average. It seems like he chose the correct sport.

When your father hits 353 major league home runs there’s a certain expectation that the son will follow in his footsteps. Hunter Sr. hit his first 27 home runs by the time he was 25-years-old. At just 22 years of age, Junior still has a few more years to get to that level.

MiLB Player Profile – Torii Hunter Jr.

Torii Hunter Jr. has multiple autographed cards in 2017 Bowman Baseball, including a  Chrome Prospects Autograph, and the Sensation and Prime Position insert sets.

Here’s a look at his compact swing and good eye at the plate:

Collectors always seem to jump on second-generation athletes. This particular Junior should be no different. Hunter has a little way to go to get his rankings up. Going into this year there wasn’t a big book on him. Now he’s added to that so that should help him going into next season. He’s more than a few year’s away right now but that’s for the best. He’s doing what he loves and his dad can help guide him.
