Future Watch: Trevor Clifton Baseball Rookie Cards, CubsTrevor Clifton was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 12th round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft. He hails from Maryville, Tennessee and was drafted out of Heritage, Maryville High School.

The Cubs sent this right-hander straight to rookie ball where he threw 10 innings in the Arizona League. The next few seasons saw him play for the Boise Hawks in 2014 and eventually the hometown Tennessee Smokies in Double-A in 2017. The minors have been an up and down experience for this prospect pitcher but he does have a 24-27 record tossing 399 1/3 innings striking out 387. The main thing is he’s getting wins and throwing a lot of innings.

Here’s a look at his nice and easy throwing motion:

Collectors can get his 2017 Bowman Chrome autographed rookie card.

According to his MLB.com draft profile: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016?list=chc

Clifton has gotten stronger since turning pro, adding about 40 pounds to his 6-foot-4 frame, and his quick arm delivers consistent 92-94 mph fastballs that have reached as high as 97. He’s doing a better job of staying on top of his curveball, which features tight spin and could become a plus pitch. His changeup has improved into at least an average offering that helps him keep left-handers at bay. ETA 2018

At 22, he will get a long look in spring training. He’ll most likely get sent to Triple-A to start the season and must work his way up to the majors. With the kind of size and arm he has, the Cubs will be very patient with him.

The Cubs want him to own the inside corner of the strike zone. He’s a guy who is hard to hit against. His curve ball is still developing as should interest from collectors. He’s not that far away.
