Future Watch: Ville Husso Rookie Hockey Cards - BluesFuture Watch: Ville Husso Rookie Hockey Cards – BluesVille Husso was drafted by the St. Louis Blues with the 94th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. At 6-3, 205, this netminder has been playing overseas since he was 13. Now 23, he’s starting to move up the Blues depth chart.

Husso has played in a lot of games overseas in Finland. That’s a very competitive league so staying there instead of coming over sooner wasn’t a mistake.

In 2016-17, the Finnish backstop joined the Chicago Wolves. He had to get used to North American ice for a full season and he played in 22 regular season games in the AHL and 13 in the ECHL. His regular season save percentage was .920 for Chicago. St. Louis had a few other goalie prospects, so they wanted him to play games wherever he could get them.

In 2017-18, Husso played in 38 games for the San Antonio Rampage. His 2.42 GAA and .922 save percentage with four shutouts showed he had a great season. His team didn’t make the playoffs.

On March 12th Husso was recalled to St. Louis for emergency conditions. He dressed, didn’t play, but as the rules state for goaltenders, he got his first trading card. He was called up again in April.

Husso has a Young Guns rookie card in 2017-18 Series 2 hockey. He also has rookies in O-Pee-Chee Platinum and SP Game-Used.

Here’s a look at him in action:

The Blues are going to need a goaltender of the future. Husso could fit the bill. He’s at the age where he can now handle the rigors of the NHL and don’t be surprised if he works his way in as a backup to start. One day somebody will say he came out of nowhere and you’ll know better if you read this.
