Future Watch: Wander Javier Rookie Baseball Cards, TwinsFuture Watch: Wander Javier Rookie Baseball Cards, TwinsWander Javier was signed by the Minnesota Twins as an international free agent in 2015. The $4 million-dollar bonus he received was the richest in franchise history.

In 2016, he had a brief stint in the Dominican Summer League and he hit an impressive .308 with two homers and six RBI.

The next season he played for the Elizabethton Twins in the Appalachian league. There he got 157 at-bats and they were productive. He smacked 13 doubles, 4 home runs and 22 RBI. He had four steals and 49 strikeouts in 41 games. He did have one four-hit game that season and he needs more of that and less striking out at the plate.

Just 19, this shortstop has a bright future ahead of him in the Twin Cities. He needs to clean up his errors a bit, but his potential is huge.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

He may be far away, but Javier has a ton of potential and ceiling. With plus bat speed and strength, he has considerable raw power. He’s shown ability to hit in games, with very good bat-to-ball skills, something that will only improve with pro instruction and consistent reps. There’s the chance for him to have above-average hit-and-power tools when all is said and done. A very good athlete, he’s already added good strength since signing. Some feel he’ll eventually outgrow shortstop, but the Twins feel he’ll be able to stay there, in the body mold of bigger shortstops like Troy Tulowitzki, Derek Jeter or, more recently, Corey Seager. He has good defensive actions and a strong throwing arm. ETA 2020
