Alexis Lafreniere is Ready To Light Up The Hobby – Alexis Lafreniere will soon be announced as the first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft and the newest star for the New York Rangers. The Rangers haven’t had the first pick in the modern draft era, and based on their legion of collectors, this prospect will move product.

Lafreniere chose not to play overseas until the NHL season started up. He has a world-class Rangers practice facility waiting for him that he can use to keep skating, and for now, he’s just waiting for the biggest day of his young career so far.

“It has been pretty long waiting for a couple of months. We didn’t know what to expect. Now it’s coming pretty soon, and the Rangers are a big organization. They are a really good young team, and we’ll see what happens,” said Lafreniere.

On Draft night, he won’t have thousands in attendance or even a big crowd of adoring fans in Montreal cheering for him. That was supposed to happen, but now it’s not, and he’s going to make the best of it.

I’ll be at my house with my family,” Lafreniere stated. “Probably a couple of my friends, but we don’t know what’s going to happen with COVID-19.”

Lafreniere comes from an athletic family, which has helped in his development and focus while trying out different fields. “All of my family likes sports and likes watching sports. For me growing up, we did a lot of different sports. My sister was playing soccer, so I was playing with her a little bit,” he remembered. “I think it’s always good for you to play different sports. When you step on the ice, you’re focused to play hockey, but off the ice, playing some different sports is always good as an athlete.”

Imagine having a chance to make a name for yourself in the “Big Apple“.

Looking forward to it for sure. It’s a really nice place. One of the biggest cities in the world. It’s exciting, We will see what happens but it would be very exciting for sure,” Lafreniere said trying to not let the cat out of the bag.

Lafreniere played for Rimouski and was a captain there, similar to Sidney Crosby. The Penguins captain came into the locker room this season and addressed the team. That kind of combo card is what collectors can expect to see early on.

Don’t compare this prospect to Crosby, though; it’s just not fair. Lafreniere will be an all-star, a top-line player eventually, and a top-10 scorer in the NHL for many years to come. That should be enough for many collectors to jump and get his NHL cards.

His pre-NHL cards have gone up in value already and are a good investment. Upper Deck has been making cards of him, including #1 pick redemption cards included in 2020-21 Upper Deck MVP. I suggest trying to pull his cards from boxes because the single prices are already jacked up. (This way, you’re also getting some other cards for your collection).
