Hobby Musings: Baseball’s biggest starsWith baseball season quickly approaching, card collectors will be looking to a new crop of rookies and prospects to chase. They’ll also be seeing how their favorite veterans and their cards perform over the course of another season. With any luck, we’ll be able to have a full slate of games in 2021 after an abbreviated 2020 season. As the season gets underway, the baseball card manufacturers will be doing everything they can to meet the demand of another year, especially in a hot market.

To get an idea of the players we should be keeping an eye on in the baseball card world, I caught up with representatives from three baseball card manufacturers:

KS: Who is MLB’s marquee name right now on the field and in the card world?

EK: It’s got to be Fernando Tatis Jr.! As far as MLB goes, he has really become one of the faces of baseball, and more specifically the face of a young wave of talent. With his record deal this offseason making noise (and of course being voted Topps Series 1 Card #1), Tatis Jr. is certainly the card to collect.

BG: (Mike) Trout.

LF: Fernando Tatis Jr.Hall of Fame potential, charismatic, World Series contender and could be the face of MLB.

KS: Who’s the player that you think could be next in line for that title and why?

EK: Luis Robert is on his way. Outside of already being a collector-favorite, he is a young talent who has tremendous potential. I’m excited to see what he does with a full MLB season!

BG: Juan Soto or Tatis Jr. Mad skills, unparalleled among younger players.

LF: Jasson Dominguez in about five years (all the above like Tatis Jr.), plus he is with the Yankees.

KS: Who’s the one player in baseball cards that we’re not talking about right now that we will be talking about by the of the season?

EK: Marcus Semien. Now that he’s with the Blue Jays I’m excited to see what he does this season. He can provide some impactful knowledge to a squad filled with young stars, so I hope that his presence in the locker room only furthers his reputation as being a good player and even better person. Don’t sleep on the Blue Jays this year!

BG: Jo Adell.

LF: Roderick AriasNext International big name that will get huge hype, plus VERY STRONG chance he is signing with the Yankees.

KS: Who’s a veteran player you could see having a big season and increasing his card appeal?

EK: David Price. We didn’t get to see him during last year’s shortened season, but he’s right at home in an impressive Dodgers rotation and I hope that he has a memorable year.

BG: Jose Altuve

LF: Pete Alonso
