KS: Here at the Heritage Auctions booth for the 2024 National Sports Collectors Convention. Known a lot for sports, we have some pretty kind of cool pop culture non-sport memorabilia here. What more can you tell me about it?
JM: So, we’re previewing at Nationals this year. Upcoming auction November 12th, 13th and 14th. Heritage is working with Hasbro. We have all the Power Ranger costumes, props, and villains from 1993 Mighty Morphin up until 2023. We’ll be close to a thousand lots. So, if you’re a Power Ranger fan, whether you have a Pink Power Ranger or White, Green, we have everyone and all the villains and hundreds of weapons coming up in November.
KS: So how did Hasbro and Heritage team up to do this Power Ranger auction?
JM: So, about a year ago, year and a half ago, Hasbro reached out, and they were thinking about deaccessioning costumes for Power Rangers, and we came up with the plan for them, because they want to give fans around the world the opportunity to celebrate one of the greatest television toy franchises ever created.
KS: Was any of this memorabilia, similar kind of memorabilia, ever come to auction before, or is this the first time we’re seeing something like this?
JM: Power Rangers, this is the first time it’s ever been released. Bits and pieces have come out over the years, but we have everything. Think about 1993 Mighty Morphin, the first year we have every single season up to 2023. So, we have every possible Power Ranger thing and villain you can imagine.
KS: So, what kind of reception have you seen so far from your client base now that these are out and people know that they’re available?
JM: So, this is a sneak peak, and we were curious because obviously we’re at a sports convention, but I think it’s one of the most popular things here. People come by and they’re like no way! Because we can walk around the show and we see endless amounts of Mickey Mantles and Babe Ruths and Ted Williams. But Power Rangers, I mean, it’s just another thing. We all collect stuff, right? So, people who are natural collectors, and they’re gravitating to this because it’s so nostalgic.
