The Verdict
In search of some autograph volume, I had the chance to crack a box of SAGE High Series Football for this year. Each pack in the box contains an autograph, and there’s some nice names to chase. I didn’t come across any ink of the top QBs from this year’s draft class. However, I did come away with a pair of nice receiver autos in Panthers rookie wideout Xavier Legette and Chargers second-round rookie WR Ladd McConkey. Some other notable autos in the box included Jermaine Burton and a DJ Williams signature numbered to 100.
All of the autographs in the box were on stickers, and I came away with seven numbered signatures. I also beat the odds a little and pulled 17 total signatures instead of the advertised 16. The only thing that was a little bit of a bummer to see was that the signature quality on the cards wasn’t the best. Several of the card autos appeared to be faded. Looking at other autograph card examples online, this doesn’t seem to be the norm with the product. I liked the picture selection and the overall quality/design of the cards though. The color changes on some of them were a nice change of pace and added some eye appeal.
Aside from the autographs, I also pulled several inserts and parallel cards in the box. These yielded a lot of big names, including Caleb Williams and J.J. McCarthy. It was nice to see the variety in the base cards as it provides collectors a chance to pull cards of players they may not normally get, especially if you like seeing them in college uniforms. The collation did seem a little odd though as several packs had a base card and parallel card of the same player.
I would have liked to have come away with a better signature in my box, but it delivered what I expected it to be overall. SAGE has cultivated a consistent formula over the years with content, and this one fell pretty in line with years past. It’s a bit of a risk/reward proposition with the variety of signatures in the checklist, but you can certainly walk away with a nice pull with a bit of luck.
