Hobby Musings: Product Rewind – 2021 Topps Chrome Black Baseball – Still a relatively new entry into the baseball market, Topps brought back Chrome Black Baseball in 2021. It’s a quick break with four cards per box. However, it’s a product that can pack some serious punch. With an incredible autograph checklist and a variety of low-numbered parallels, the product can help put a smile on a collector’s face in a hurry with the right pull.

Courtesy of Topps, I had the chance to bust a box of this. Opening it up, I found a three-card pack and an encased2021 Topps Chrome Black Baseball one-touch hidden behind the pack. Looking at the case, I got a quick dose of good news and bad news. The good news is that I pulled an autograph of young Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The downside is that it was in the form of a redemption card, so I’ll have to wait a bit to fully appreciate the awesomeness of this card. Thankfully, the expiration date for the redemption isn’t until October 31, 2023. That’s something for all of you to keep in mind should you choose to get a box of this product. Redemptions are possible, but as of now, you have plenty of time to redeem them.

After checking out the redemption, I turned my attention to the pack. It ended up containing two non-numbered base cards of Kelbert Ruiz and Ketel Marte. As the product name implies, the cards have a nice shiny black look to them. My third card in the pack was a purple parallel of White Sox slugger Andrew Vaughn. Numbered to 150, the card had the same look as the others with the key difference being the purple coloring on it.

As noted earlier, it’s a pretty quick rip, but a fun one. It’s a product I’d love to get another look at down the road. Single boxes are available online around the $150-165 mark, but not every seller is carrying the. As such, it may be one you want to jump on sooner rather than later before they dry up completely. Aside from players like Guerrero, collectors should be on the lookout for autographs of other baseball starts like Mike Trout and Pete Alonso. Lower-numbered parallels all the way down to 1/1 superfractors are also randomly inserted. While it can be a risky box, if you pull a not-as-desired autograph, there’s a lot of upside in this one.
