Ian Happ 2015 Bowman Draft Future Watch, CubsIan Happ 2015 Bowman Draft Future Watch, Cubs – Ian Happ was a first round selection in the 2015 MLB Draft as the 9th overall pick by the Chicago Cubs. This 6′, 205 lb outfielder attends the University of Cincinnati. His short stint in A-ball yielded some terrific offensive results. With two teams he had 17 doubles, 9 homers, 33 RBI and 10 steals. He only got caught once. So as you can see the Cubs got that player with the proverbial five-tool potential.

After a full college season, and the aforementioned rookie ball, Happ was eager to play in the Arizona Instructional League. This switch-hitter was a semifinalist for the prestigious Golden Spikes Award and after slugging 14 homers in college some are saying he could accelerate at a fast pace following in the footsteps of recent Cubs phenoms.

Happ’s first MLB licensed autographed baseball card can be found in 2015 Bowman Draft Baseball, card number BCA-IH. It took a few years but collectors now want to collect Chicago Cubs prospects and Happ has an extremely high ceiling.

Here’s a look at his sweet swing at the University of Cincinnati:

Here’s one more look at some of his better at-bats:

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

“A switch-hitter who’s better as a lefty, Happ exhibits good balance and controls the strike zone well. With plus bat speed from both sides of the plate and some deceptive strength, he should hit for both average and power. He’s a solid runner with some base stealing aptitude.”

Will he play second base or outfield? That will depend on the Cubs organizational needs. Either way this guy will be fun to watch when he’s promoted.

Collector’s can expect to see him make his major league debut sometime in 2018.
