In the Clinch: Imavov Looks to Leapfrog to Top 5, UFC on ESPN 57In the Clinch: Imavov Looks to Leapfrog to Top 5, UFC on ESPN 57Fresh off his countrymen Islam Makhachev’s victory at UFC 302, Nassourdine Imavov will look to make a similar statement against Jared Cannonier this Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky.

The No. 7 Imavov (13-4-0, 1NC), 29, previously moved up to light heavyweight. He retuned with a no-contest with Chris Curtis in June 2023 and then a majority-decision over Roman Dolidze in February. Standing 6’3”, he will have the height and reach advantage over Cannonier. He will also have the ground advantage.

is aware of the position he and Cannonier are in. This is not a time to grind out a decision win.

Considering how Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa failed to impress last week, a big finish could elevate the winner to a title shot after Israel Adesanya takes on Dricus Du Plessis.

In the Clinch: Imavov Looks to Leapfrog to Top 5, UFC on ESPN 57Cannonier (17-6-0), 40, is defending his No. 4 ranking as well as returning from a torn MCL sustained in training. He fought for the title almost two years ago and learned a few things in the process. He will expect Imavov to be aggressive which he says will be a good night for him.

“The Killa Gorilla” hasn’t registered a finish since putting away Derek Brunson with elbows in February 2022, a span of three fights. His last submission win was over 11 years ago.

That could all change Saturday at UFC on ESPN 57.

I have a feeling we are going to get a finish in this fight. For Imavov, he will drag Cannonier to the ground and get the tap. Cannonier is straight going for the knockout or liver shot.

Combine this with the new UFC gloves and we should get an entertaining fight.

And so, the KFC Yum! Center (what a name) in Louisville, the birthplace of Muhammad Ali, should be rocking.

Enjoy the fights.
