Lewis (26-10-0, 1NC), 37, and Spivac (15-3-0), 28, ranked No. 7 and No. 12 respectively, will need to keep up with the shift in the division. With the departure of former champion Francis Ngannou and the addition of light heavyweight phenom Jon Jones, getting back into the upper echelon of the division must start Saturday at the Apex.

Lewis does have the experience of fighting for the title. It took a three-fight win streak to do it. However, that was almost five years ago when Daniel Cormier was champion. Since then, “The Black Beast” has gone 5-4-0, including TKO losses in three of his last four fights. He still has the knockout power and the likeable personality in front of the cameras, but Father Time could be nudging him as he now faces another young and hungry challenger. In the Clinch: Lewis, Spivac Throw Down, UFC Vegas 68

Spivac has finished two of his last three contests. He seems to have learned from the disappointing loss to Tom Aspinall and is ready to move up in the division via a previous top contender. But he pulled out of this fight previously last November. “The Polar Bear” needs to be firing on all cylinders this time if he wants the win.

This fight really comes down to who can land the big shot first. The chin of Lewis is not what it once was, but Spivac was taken down rather quickly by Aspinall too. Lewis will have the weight advantage with Spivac being more technical. At any rate, this fight is not likely to go five rounds and provide a definite conclusion.

A good way to start a cold and dreary February.
