Teixeira (32-7-0), who turned 42 years young on Oct. 28, will get his second crack at the light heavyweight crown in over seven years. He’ll face Jan Blachowicz (28-8-0) in the main event of UFC 267.

The last time Glover was here was back in 2014, when he fought then champion Jon Jones at UFC 172 after five straight wins in the octagon.

As we know, Jones decisioned Teixeira that night. It was a lesson on what it takes to get to the top of the mountain.

After some missteps, Teixeira worked his way again to five straight wins. He knows he may not get another shot again at 42.

But Jan Blachowicz has other ideas. Since winning the belt at UFC 253 by defeating Dominick Reyes, the pride of Poland fended off middleweight champion Israel Adesanya convincingly at UFC 259 in March.

At 38 years old, Blachowicz can relate to Teixeira’s quest. Despite that, he declares he has no bad blood with Glover, but intends to successfully defend the belt.

Teixeira is a much more cerebral fighter these days, preferring to use ground skills to put opponents away instead of standing and banging like his idol Chuck Liddell. It’s helped prolong his career and prepare him for Saturday night.

Teixeira will need to muster up one more vintage performance. He’ll need to go to work early and take the starch out of Blachowicz by going to the body and dragging the fight to the ground.

He will have the experience of going the distance with the greatest light heavyweight of all time.

It’s now or never for Glover. Let’s see if he can score one for the weekend warriors Saturday night.
