INFOGRAPHIC: All-Time Sports Collectibles Sales – For the first time in the history of the sports collectibles industry, not one, but two items have recently sold for astonishing eight figure sums. The hobby has exploded out of its long time niche, to garner regular main stream news coverage as item after item sells for top dollar.
Part of the explosive growth of interest and popularity is that the sports collectibles market has developed into a legitimate tangible asset class. This is being widely recognized by leading financial institutions. For many years, sports collectibles lagged behind other alternative asset classes. Art, wine, jewelry and automobiles were seen as “better” investments, however, that has changed.
As more people look to hedge against inflation and diversify asset portfolios into classes that can preserve wealth. This is fueling the growing demand for sports collectibles as part of this investment strategy.
